20 WEDDING SAVINGS THAT WILL GO UNNOTICED by Jackie Baird, On Bended Knee - www.bendedkneeweddings.com

Not every bride these days has a Wedding Fund pot of Mom and Dad’s money. So here are 20 unnoticeable ways to save without creating a wedding drag.

1. More Intimate Affairs- Smaller weddings of 100 guests or less are more popular than ever. Couples have caught on that smaller weddings lend affordability for more lavish elements. Fewer guests equal options for a smaller venue, a lower food and bar bill and less tables to seat guests.  (READ MORE)

Working With A Wedding Band

I had the unique opportunity to work with a band recently. Most times as a DJ, when we work with a band, we act as Master of Ceremonies and the band just plays sets of music between our sets of music. This time, I was just providing an LCD projector and screen as a rental to the client. There was no DJ at this wedding.

The band sounded great and their mix of music was not bad. As a DJ, if I were to play a song then leave a 2 minute gap between the end of one song and the start of the next, people would look at me funny and wonder what the technical problem was. For this band, this was just the way they worked. The music was so loud for dinner time, that no one could talk. Bands are just loud and LOUDER. There is no background volume level for them for some reason. (READ MORE)

Custom Lighting Designs At Your Wedding

Create a unique and unforgettable moment as you take the dance floor for your first dance.  Custom up-lighting also available to transform your entire wedding venue.

So, you might be questioning why one DJ company charges only $500 for event lighting and another DJ or Lighting Designer is charging $1000-$2500.  First off - it's not the same thing.

Many of these low-end lighting DJs are using low output LED fixtures that can not be seen unless the room is completely black.  You will notice in the photo above that you can see vivid color from the lights AND you can see guest faces all illuminated.

There is a difference between a single color static uplight (stays the same color throughout the night) and wirelessly controlled DMX lighting that can be changed based on the scene that you want to set (Red for dinner, Teal for introductions, and even SOUND ACTIVATED to go to the beat of the music for dancing).

When you see lighting at a reception on TV on shows like Platinum Weddings or My Fair Wedding - their lighting budget is somewhere between $5,000 and $20,000.  Yes, that's just for lighting.  At the DJ Network, we have lighting packages that start around $1,000 and offer full venue lighting with wireless control and high output fixtures to truly transform your venue.
